"Don McMillan: I Approved this Message"

| Nothing
irritates quite like the flawed logic
we see everyday in Political Ads. The
worst recent example was a commercial
that Steve Poizner ran against Meg
Whitman here California. Basically, it
asked "Do you want a Governor that
agrees with the President of Mexico?" It
followed with a clip of the President of
Mexico saying he was against State Bill
1070 in Arizona. Then a clip showed Meg
Whitman saying she would vote against SB
1070 if it came before her. Does this
really mean that Meg Whitman agrees with
ALL the views of the President of
Mexico? That's what they are implying. I
think he hates cauliflower. Does this
mean Meg hates cauliflower? I
loathe this type of manipulative logic.
Why not just say Meg is against
Arizona's stance on illegal immigration?
Simple - because equating Meg Whitman to
the President of Mexico is more shocking
and more likely to catch the ears and
eyes of people with racial and ethnic
bias. And why stop there? The ads below
show the logical path with which this
type of political logic can lead... |

Let's stop this kind of garbage. It's
insulting. It's depressing. And it makes me sad
to think that this is where our political system
has ended up. I don't want to vote for anyone
who "approved this message". |
